Elemis Papaya Enzyme Peel

People with sensitive skin (like me) often have trouble with exfoliating products. Scrubs can be too harsh; acids can sting and burn. I’ve had good luck, however, with enzymatic peels, like Elemis Papaya Enzyme Peel. It’s so gentle, I’ve used it right before an evening out. In about 15 minutes, it delivers smooth, glowing skin that requires a minimal foundation.

Elemis Papaya Enzyme Peel gently exfoliates and purifies tired, lackluster skin. Non-abrasive, using fruit enzymes, skin is left soft, revitalized and radiant. The newly revealed fresh skin cells are smooth, moisturized and remineralised.

Key Ingredients

Papaya: Crushed Papaya contains a natural enzyme called Papain that gently lifts dead skin cells.

Pineapple: Pineapple contains an enzyme called Bromelain that assists with exfoliation and helps purify the skin.

Milk Protein: Moisturising, regenerative and restructuring actives. Highly biocompatible with the skin.

Bladderwrack: A seaweed, also known as Fucus Vesiculosus. The seaweed extract is rich in minerals and trace elements and has powerful moisturizing properties.

How to use Elemis Papaya Enzyme Peel

Apply to cleansed skin avoiding the delicate area around the eyes. Leave for 10-15 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water to reveal a brighter complexion.

Benefits

  • Refines, revitalizes and smoothes
  • Gently exfoliates the skin, making the complexion appear smoother and brighter
  • Dissolves dead skin cells without rubbing, making it particularly suited to mature and delicate skin
  • Excellent for use before a treatment mask
  • Provides anti-oxidant and free radical protection
  • Formulated in line with the ELEMIS Promise: No Parabens, no Sodium Laureth Sulphate – SLS or SLES, no Mineral Oil, no Artificial Colors

Smell

The Papaya Enzyme Peel has a more invigorating smell with a more fruity scent. The scent certainly lets the mask live up to what you’d expect it to smell like according to its exotic name.

Application

The peel is creamy and white and spreads easily across the skin. You don’t need very much at all. It doesn’t dry down so you can still have a conversation while it’s on, drink some tea etc. According to Elemis’ directions you should leave it on for 10-15 minutes, I leave it on for 15 minutes even though my skin is more on the sensitive side. You’ll need to adjust this according to your own skin’s particular needs.

Results

I don’t find I see any immediate results after removing the Papaya mask, but I do notice skin being more radiant and even toned the next morning. If you don’t always use a serum at night, make sure to use one after you’ve used this mask as you’ll see it works even better on just exfoliated skin!

This doesn’t leave skin as baby smooth as other harsher exfoliating products can do, but it does the job well still. This makes it perfect for anyone with a more sensitive skin type. Unfortunately, I don’t feel this makes too much of a definite difference to hyperpigmentation marks. I’m sure it does on average in the long run, but I never see any definite improvements on marks straight after using this and that’s a bit of a bummer.

My Verdict

I can’t really fault the product. It smells and looks great and I really enjoyed the texture and my skin did look much fresher after using it. It’s not a game changer product for me by any means but it’s something I would easily recommend it to my friends. Overall, I’m semi-underwhelmed by this. It’s nice enough, doesn’t irritate skin and works ok. In all fairness my expectations might have been a little high with all the hype, I’m not sure what exactly I was hoping it would do that it hasn’t. Having said that, I will be looking for something else when I finish the tube. Mostly because I like trying different things – I’d say this one is a pretty safe bet for anyone with sensitive skin so if I find other similar products irritate my skin in the future, I’ll probably make a return to this. It might not sound like it, but I really do like the Papaya Enzyme Peel! I love the gorgeous scent, how gentle it is and it does its job well!
